Travel Skincare Tips

It's that time of the year - we travel to visit family, take a well-deserved break or simply choose to pamper ourselves in an exotic location. 

However, travel can be quite stressful for your skin: change of climate, dry air on planes, processed foods and changed beauty routines can all add to unhappy skin.

That's why we have put together some tips to help you support your skin during the holiday season. Simply following a few of these tips & hopefully it will help you keep breakouts, dry skin & co to a minimum.


1. Drink plenty of water

This is probably the best thing you can do for your skin - drink plenty of purified water, especially during flights. Water will not only make sure you skin is hydrated, but will also assist other body functions in working properly & will help combat that sluggish & exhausted feeling most of us get during travels. It's also a good idea to start upping your water intake a few days before you leave for your trip - so your body is optimally hydrated before you board that plane. 

We love to add some lime or lemon to our water during travels. It will give you a Vitamin C boost and help the removal of toxins from the body - simple, yet effective in helping your body cope with travel.

2. Go Bare

Yes, that's right - leave that make-up in your bag when flying. Airplanes are prone to low levels of humidity, airborne bacteria and are generally stressful environments for your skin. Having clogged pores due to makeup will only make matters worse for the skin. If you wish, you can always reapply once you land at your destination. 

2. In-flight Hydration

During a long-haul flight it's a good idea to reapply your moisturiser. The extremely dry cabin air can dehydrate your skin so much that it's important to make sure you give it as much hydration as possible.

We suggest applying a little more moisturiser than usual as well as using an oil below your normal moisturisers. Simply massage the oil into your skin first, let it sink in for a couple minutes and then apply your usual moisturiser. Oils create a protective layer on your skin that will shield from bacteria and is super nourishing & hydrating - the ideal companion for your in-flight routine. 

3. Cleanse

You may want to cleanse your skin a little more during long-distance travel. It simply feels refreshing to wash your face and will help combat tiredness. Use a slightly more moisturising cleanser & don't shy away from using oil or creams cleansers - even oily skin can benefit from these in dry, low humidity environments. 

4. Freshen Up 

Feeling the tolls of long-distance travel? Spritzing your face with floral waters can make a significant difference to how you feel and how your skin looks. Our Whole Lotta Rosie Toner is ideal as a travel toner - containing rose, neroli and cucumber hydrosols. Rose & Neroli are moisturing and smell beautiful. Pair that with Cucumber and you've got a refreshing & nourishing toner. 

Spritz regularly on the face, neck and décolletage to tone, hydrate, refresh or simply to smell bloomin' great. You can also make DIY wipes by spraying some onto a clean cloth - then simply wipe face to feel refreshed. 

5. Scrub Away

At your destination you won't be able to wait to get into the shower & get rid of that airplane smell. It's a good idea to also use a body scrub to get rid of any skin flakiness (thanks, plane air!). 6. Mask It Up

After a long trip it's a good idea to give your skin some love with a facial mask. Oat flour and marshmallow root powder form a protein-rich, soothing layer over your skin to calm irritation and replenish moisture. 7. Fun in the Sun

This brings us to the next crucial point: Sun Protection. Wherever your holiday destination is - you'd be doing your skin a favour by applying sunscreen every day and taking additional precautions such as reducing your exposure to the sun (especially during midday) and wearing protective clothing when out for longer periods of time.
